ST.MARKS (Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland) TO HOST RUSSIAN STUDENTS

St Marks High School Warrenpoint is to host six students from Kirovsk in North West Russia as part of “Show Children the World” project.

The students and two teachers from school No 7 in Kirovsk, along with project coordinator Irina Minzar, will arrive in Newry and Mourne on Sunday 21st March for a 10 day visit, part of which will be spent at St Marks. This is the third group of students from Kirovsk to visit Newry and Mourne and Joe McCann recently appointed Vice Principal of St Marks said that the school is delighted to be part of the project. During their time at the school the students will participate in classes and other activities while the teachers will observe teaching methods and share their experiences with the local teachers.

Local coordinator Eamonn Fitzpatrick of FM Environmental Ltd said that the connection between Newry and Mourne and Kirovsk has grown since the project started five years ago with many different activities between the two areas being supported by our local council and the Kirovsk Municipality. School No 7 has been the driving force behind the project in Kirovsk where english lessons usually includes some reference to Newry and Mourne! A constant reminder is the permanent exhibition of Irish arts and crafts in the school, in what is known as the Irish classroom.

The visit of this group will help to reinforce the connection. Further details can be found in the project website www.sctw.org.
